Our first big step however, was the acquisition of a rather Heath Robinson home-brew kit which we set up in a domestic kitchen in January 2008. To our surprise and delight, the resulting beer (our proto-type Blonde ale), turned out pretty damn good. And that was the start of what has been one hell of a brewing rollercoaster ride.
The Morrissey Fox brand is a joint venture between Men Behaving Badly actor, Neil Morrissey and celebrity chef Richard Fox.
The Blonde was developed as part of a TV series ‘Neil Morrissey’s Risky Business’ on Channel 4 in October 2008 where the boys developed their idea of the perfect beer, the result was an ale/lager hybrid, light & refreshing with a flowery nose. Once the beer was developed they went on to trial the beer on consumers at the Glastonbury festival and went on to secure a supermarket deal.
In March 2009, the Morrissey Fox Blonde became an official partner to Comic Relief and raised over £40,000 for Red Nose Day.
September 2009 saw the launch of ‘The Brunette’ with a new marketing campaign aimed at introducing new and younger drinkers to the craft beer market, this was launched nationally in both bottle and cask. They have also launched a full range of seasonal beers with new additions for 2010.
One year on, the bottles can be found in over 550 Tesco stores and the cask has been listed in over 2000 UK pubs including large retailers such as Mitchells & Butlers & Wetherspoons, this has resulted in over a million pints being sold so far.
